South Wilmington Wetlands

The 14-acre South Wilmington Wetlands Park aims to serve multiple purposes: it will act as a stormwater management facility, restore and enhance existing wetlands, and provide a new recreational area for the community. A key feature is its wide, ADA-accessible boardwalk/pathway, enhancing local walkability and offering recreational opportunities. The park will also facilitate access to jobs and retail shopping for the Southbridge community, offer flood relief to Wilmington’s historic Southbridge neighborhood, and clean up a significant brownfield in the city. This involves the removal of contaminated soil accumulated over a century. Diamond Materials is collaborating with the City of Wilmington to ensure the park's safety for public use and to create a habitat suitable for fish, birds, and wildlife.
