Diamond Materials is undertaking the Seabrook Selective Demo project in Bridgeton, New Jersey, valued at $2,200,000.The purpose of this project is to perform the controlled demolition of a partially collapsed 30,000-square-foot facility to prevent damage to adjacent structures that are being preserved. The structure, constructed of steel and post-tension concrete panels, previously housed vegetable processing operations and is positioned directly between two existing buildings. Temporary shoring systems are required to support surrounding structures and protect areas designated for preservation throughout demolition activities. The project’s original duration is estimated at three to four months, with Diamond Materials anticipating completion within approximately four months.
The scope includes highly controlled demolition within a confined site, limited clearing of approximately 0.01 acres, and the handling of approximately 500 cubic yards of cut-to-fill material, supplemented by 1,000 cubic yards of imported fill as needed for stabilization and site restoration. No storm drainage, sanitary sewer, asphalt paving, concrete placement, sidewalk construction, curb installation, or stormwater management facilities are included in this project.
A primary challenge involves the uncertainty of how the compromised structure will respond during demolition, particularly given its proximity to adjacent buildings that must remain intact. Diamond Materials is addressing this risk through carefully sequenced demolition operations, installation of temporary structural shoring, and continuous monitoring to ensure surrounding structures remain protected. The project is progressing with a focus on precision, safety, and structural stability throughout all phases of work.
